COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES

In keeping with its charitable status, The Arts Society nationally makes grants to support the arts, working with many other other organisations including amongst others The National Trust, English Heritage and The Art Fund.  Additionally, it focuses on documenting our heritage specifically in the activities of Church Recording and more generally in other organisations.

A Church Recorder project will aim to document in detail the architecture within and without a church; the windows; internal furnishings; decorative features such as pictures, carvings and statuary along with movable possessions such as chalices and candlesticks.  A comprehensive report is furnished to the church and its diocesan authorities.

A recent Heritage project saw volunteers cataloguing and researching photographs in the Medical History Department at Royal Hallamshire Hospital and interviewing former nurses and others who might be able to help identify the many scenes of hospital life.

Such activities as these are undertaken by volunteers, often working with members of neighbouring societies.
